the Second Time

Posted on by Dave Woodruff

After she broke my heart for the second time, we walked outside. I have no recollection of the walk up the stairs from the basement bar, I expected the sun, but the skies were in a turmoil much like our emotions. We stood holding each other, she mustered what seemed like true emotion, her body shuddered and I wondered if she was crying. The sky loomed lower and darker. I’m still not sure if it was a tear that fell from her cheek onto mine or the impending rain. In a few moments, it would all be washed away.
